IAS Validation Studies

The effectiveness of the IAS as a decision-making instrument has been validated in multiple studies. These studies are reported in A Nation Deceived (Vol. II), Appendix D (PDF).

NAGC 2007

Results demonstrating the effectiveness of the IAS were presented at the 2007 National Association of Gifted Children in a talk titled "Evaluating the Effectiveness of the Iowa Acceleration Scale (IAS) in Determining the Appropriateness of Whole-Grade Acceleration" (PPT).

Notes from the Field
The 18 types of acceleration available to bright students fall into two broad categories: grade-based acceleration, which shortens the number of years a student spends in the K–12 system, and subject-based acceleration, which allows for advanced content earlier than customary.

Voices of Acceleration

Our experience has been nothing but positive for our precocious, highly-motivated 5th grader. Yes, some of the girls in her grade are now developing physically ahead of her, but she is just as emotionally and intellectually mature than her classmates.
